Selective Laser Sintering Induced Residual Stresses: Precision Measurement and Prediction

چکیده
Additive Manufacturing presents unique advantages over traditional manufacturing processes and has the potential to accelerate technical advancement across multiple sectors, permitting far greater freedom in design than conventional manufacturing. However, one barrier which blocks wide adoption is residual stresses, could seriously affect materials’ behaviour during after production. Selective laser sintering (SLS), a process with high energy input workpiece material, induces temperature gradients, further affecting final stress distribution. Within present paper, three different methods for assessment of stresses’ distribution are presented compared: non-destructive method based on neutron diffraction, destructive known as contour method, theoretical approach Finite Element Analysis. The aim examine suitability reliability application these predicting stresses additive manufacturing-built parts.

Thermal Stresses in Direct Metal Laser Sintering
In Direct Metal Laser Sintering objects are created by sequential sintering loose metal powder particles by means of laser technology. When the laser sintering process involves temperature gradients, thermal stresses develop. Corresponding residual stresses induce warping of the densified structure leading to unacceptable tolerance losses. This paper examines the role of laser beam scan pattern...
متن کاملPlasticity Effect on Residual Stresses Measurement Using Contour Method
Residual stresses have become an important player in the field of the structural integrity for many years. Having an exact knowledge of residual stress distributions can be essential in designing the engineering components as unexpected failures are inevitable where such stresses are ignored. There are many residual stresses measurement techniques including destructive and non-destructive ones...
متن کاملI. Residual Stresses and Their Measurement
Residual (locked-in) stresses in a structural material or component are those stresses that exist in the object without (and usually prior to) the application of any service or other external loads. Manufacturing processes are the most common causes of residual stress. Virtually all manufacturing and fabricating processes — casting, welding, machining, molding, heat treatment, etc. — introduce ...
متن کاملModeling of selective laser sintering/selective laser melting
Selective laser sintering and selective laser melting are powder based additive manufacturing (AM) process that can rapidly manufacture parts with comparable mechanical properties to conventional manufacturing methods directly from digital files. However, the processing recipe development and design optimization of AM parts are often based on trial and error which erodes the benefit of AM. Mode...
متن کاملResidual Stresses Measurement of a Quenched Cylinder using Slitting Method
Residual Stress measurement has gained interests among researchers for many years due to its great influence on the structural integrity. Slitting method is one of the destructive techniques that relies on the introduction of an increasing cut to a part containing residual stresses. Similar to all other mechanical strain relief techniques, slitting also suffers from its shortcomings during the ...
